Sales Tax Policy - Mercari: Your Marketplace
Sales Tax Policy

Beginning October 1, 2019, Mercari will start collecting, reporting, and remitting sales tax on behalf of our sellers in the marketplace states listed below.

This change is necessary to comply with updated tax laws that require marketplaces like Mercari to collect sales tax on behalf of sellers.

All you need to do is update the app and we will collect, report, and remit the sales tax from our buyers on behalf of our sellers.

Marketplace Facilitator Laws

Marketplace Facilitator laws require marketplaces like Mercari to calculate, collect, remit, and refund applicable sales tax on behalf of third-party sellers with respect to their sale transactions that are delivered to states where Marketplace Facilitator laws have been enacted.

This means that some buyers will start to see sales tax on their purchases. We’ll be remitting the taxes to the states on behalf of our sellers.
